Overview
In addition to redesigning a part of the mobile interface for their website, I compiled the visual elements to create a final brand book that aligns with The Seattle Globalist's existing values.

Research
Site Audit
Prior to starting this project I was unfamiliar with The Seattle Globalist. Through a site audit, I looked to gain a stronger understanding of their core values, main user groups, and current brand identity.
Communication Goals
The goals of the client, become those of the designer. In order best implement a desirable brand refresh for The Seattle Globalist I clearly outlined the communication goals which I would use to guide my design.
Symbol
Logo
To incorporate my communication goals into my logo proved to be quite the challenge.
Keeping the 'g' from the original logo was important to me, as it would make sure the loyal readers of The Seattle Globalist would not feel disconnected from their publication. The global unified community was a reoccurring theme in much of my design and is very visible with the logos.
Iconography
I designed an icon for each of the three overarching calls to action on the landing page. Similar to the logo, the graphical elements maintain consistent width and create a consistent and clear visual system.
Book
Brand book
With a new logo and iconography solidified, the last steps for my rebrand were to refresh the color palette and typography.
Color
The brand colors associated with this system capture the simple, down to earth colors of nature yet also professionalism. The simple scheme keeps a focus on content rather than flashy design. The Seattle Globalist embraces colors of Washington and provides local news that connects its readers to the world.
Typography
Times New Roman is used in headers as well as the logo, while the san-serif Proxima Nova is used for larger bodies of text. Combined these typefaces work well to create an approachable publication that while formal is not intimidating.
Mobile Interface
The current user task flow regarding the donations process is problematic in that their aren't well defined buttons, and one has to go through multiple pages of content to be able to donate.
My redesign will work to improve the user experience by minimizing text, highlighting relevant statistics and by creating a faster donation process. These elements will be implemented through proper type hierarchy, as well as through micro interactions surrounding the use of the donate button(the donate button will increase in size when the user is not scrolling drawing attention to a simple donate process).
Other factors such as live updating statistic in regards to published works by the Seattle Globalist will further promote the message of the organization and encourage people to donate.
